The certification is online and those applying must pay a one-time renewal fee of $50 with a VISA or MasterCard. 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East is working with city agencies to make the recertification process more accessible at these special events and locations:

Monday, August 10 through Saturday, August 15, 10am-5pm, 1199SEIU Training and Upgrade Fund, 4301 Garden City Drive, Suite 100, New Carrollton, MD. Metro Stop: New Carrollton.

Monday, August 17, 6pm- 8pm, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, 901 G Street NW, Washington, DC. Metro Stop: Gallery Place or Metro Center.

Wednesday, August 26, 6pm-8pm, Southwest Neighborhood Library, 900 Wesley Place SW, Washington, DC. Metro Stop: Waterfront.

Saturday, August 29, 10am-12noon, Southeast Neighborhood Library, 403 7th Street SE, Washington, DC. Metro Stop: Eastern Market.

The DC Department of Health launched a website on August 1, to allow home health aides to complete their recertification and, after making improvements to it, relaunched it on August 10.   The staff and members of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East are available to assist you if you have any difficulties with the process.

To renew online:
Step 1: Go to the DOH Website at http://doh.dc.gov/service/health-professionals
Step 2: Click on “Online License Renewal.”
Step 3: Go To: “New Users or Forgotten Password” section: Enter your Social Security Number and
Last Name (as it appears on your certificate). Click “Search.”
Step 4: Registration page displays. View your demographic information. You may update later, if necessary. Take note of your User ID and Password. No User ID or Password? Create and enter them in the appropriate box(es). Re-enter Password in “Confirm Password” box. Click “Register.”
Step 5: Registration Successful page displays. Click “Login.”
Step 6: Login page displays. Re-enter User ID and Password you created. Click “Login.” Online licensing page displays. Follow step-by-step instructions to renew.
Step 7: $50.00 renewal fee payable by entering your VISA or MASTERCARD credit card information only.
Step 8: Print a copy of your certificate for your records.
Step 9: After 24 hours, you will be able to verify the renewal of your certification at
https://app.hpla.doh.dc.gov/Weblookup/

According to the DC Department of Health, home health aides must have worked a minimum of eight hours during the prior 24 months as an HHA under the supervision of a licensed nurse or other health professional. The aide must also have 12 hours each year of in-service training/continuing education. (In service-continuing education will not be audited this first renewal period.)
